I bought a bag of Heath toffee bits one week at the grocery on a whim. This is not like me; I am a very ardent list maker. I got an email from Plain Chicken as I always do and saw this recipe for Cake Mix Toffee bars and thought it would be a great dessert to make on the fly with pantry ingredients. I had some unexpected free time over the pre Christmas weekend and decided to try my hand at them. I was so glad I did.
I made them for Christmas Day and just casually placed them on the dessert table with no fanfare. When it was dessert time, everyone was asking, "who made these random things, they are so good!?" Well, they were gone in five seconds and beat out the snickers pie and pumpkin pie! My crossfitting Dad had two and could not stop talking about them a week after!
So make these. Stat. Or wait until February when your new years resolutions are busted. Too easy and too delicious to pass up! Full recipe to follow the montage. Linking up with Meal Plan Monday and Tasty Tuesdays.
Not the prettiest dessert at Christmas but the most sought after! |
Also not the healthiest dessert but pretty simple and easy to make! |
Boy doesn't that look good? |
And doesn't that look better? |
I just wanted to take a spoon to this! |
You must make it! |
Five Ingredient Toffee Cake Dessert Adapted from Plain Chicken
Ingredients
1 box yellow cake mix
1 egg
6 Tbsp butter, melted
1 bag chocolate toffee bits (I used Heath brand)
1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
Preheat oven to 350ºF. Spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray. Combine cake mix, butter and egg. Press into bottom of prepared baking dish. Sprinkle chocolate toffee bits on top of cake mix mixture. Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over the whole thing. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool completely. Cut into squares and enjoy. I made these a day ahead and stored at room temperature.
