Friday Favorites-Getting Spooky

Hello friends!  Happy Friday!  Cooler weather is here, and I could not be happier.  Hope you have been having a fabulous week!  It is Halloween weekend here and Voodoo Fest is taking over my neighborhood.  Luckily I won't be here to try and defend my parking spot, pick up beer cans dropped in front of my house and give directions to drunk teenagers.  Get off my lawn, says this 40 year old, lol!

This was a very neat article about some truly American creations of ethnic food! Hat tip to my fellow New Orleanian Joy the Baker for that link!  I love Bob Armstrong dip from Matt's El Rancho that is mentioned in the story and have not had it in my last few trips to Austin even though I beg.  I also make a mean Gumbo you should try.  But if not, my pal the Jambalaya Girl makes an excellent mix!

I listened to the Goop podcast with Will Cole this week.  He is a specialist in inflammation.  I feel like that is what is causing my joint pain and took this quiz and I am high on the spectrum for that.  He gives you a food prescription when you take the quiz.  Mine mostly wanted me to reintroduce the things I gave up (collagen, MCT Oil, Butter Coffee) in order to lower my cholesterol.  Which worked!  Well I don't want to increase my cholesterol to cure the pain, but this Black Cumin Seed Oil may do the trick as it is plant based!  I know it tastes gross from the reviews so I am going to put it in my smoothies.

I should have thought of using cheetos when I made my pumpkin shaped cream cheese dip a few years ago for a Halloween party.  I think I will be making this for next week!

I am heading for a quick getaway to San Antonio this weekend.  I have been a few times but have never seen the Alamo!  I can't wait to visit it and geek out, have you been?

Hope your weekend is lovely and you have some beautiful weather to enjoy!  I finally have some food posts drafted for next week.

Happy Cooking!
